This house uses concrete mixed with red clay and other pigments in a monolithic composition of simple forms. Key to the spatial arrangements and facade design are considerations around environmental comfort in a tropical climate. The doorways and glazing are set back deep into the facade and partially shaded by vertical slats, while the interior courtyard encourages light to penetrate through the length of the plan and drives airflow through clerestory and floor level windows in horizontal and diagonal paths across the house. As important as the building itself are the varied expressions of greenery and landscape in and around the house.
